Avi Bar-Or has been involved in insurance and actuarial issues in Israel and worldwide for more than 30 years. Bar-Or served in the past as CEO of an insurance company, founder of the field of nursing insurance, president of the Israel Association of Actuaries, and as a senior lecturer.
Avi Bar-Or held various positions in the insurance sector:- 1998 - Independent consultant to companies, organizations and individuals
- 1992 - 1997 Deputy CEO and chief actuary, Hachsharat Hayeshuv Insurance Company Ltd.
- 1988 - 1991 Independent consultant, chief actuary (external) for Sahar, Shimshon, Biderman.
- Representative of Swiss Re in Israel.
- 1985 - 1988 CEO, Maoz Insurance Company and Sela Insurance Company, and actuary for the Migdal group.
- 1981 - 1984 Actuary, manager of reserves department, Liberty Life, South Africa.
- 1968 - 1980 A variety of positions in the insurance sector in Israel - management, underwriting and marketing.
In addition, Bar-Or is a member of several professional organizations in the insurance sector:
- (F.IL.A.A.) Fellow member of the Israel Association of Actuaries (association president 1995-1998)
- Member of the International Association of Consulting Actuaries (I.A.C.A.)

Bar-Or is a teaching fellow in the MA actuarial program at the University of Haifa , and a senior lecturer at the Insurance College.
